I was deeply hypnotized and my hypnotist said "what is your name pet?" and suddenly I knew I was and always wanted to be Monique. My last name comes from last week when I joined Transtastic! It denotes where I live and my french speaking other half (I'm bi-national and bilingual)

awwwww - lovely story wonder why he said that though : ) - I had a similar experience in a way, I had never ever been to my dads grave until one day in August 2010- I was drawn there from being in Bristol- just had to go on that day, found the grave within 15 minutes of arriving at the cemetry- spent an hour chatting to the grave- felt totally at ease and have moved on to where I am now since that day- my father was in to ballet, opera, singing and playing keyboard and died when I was 4

When I saw an s & m magazine & saw a dominatrix for the 1st time. I wanted to be her. In that magazine was a dominatrix Evett Evill. I also knew I liked to whip & cause extreme pain. I had a slave ( the first man I dominated ) who said " you are pure evil with that whip". So from those 2 places came Eva Evil.

What a great thread, i'm fascinated by peoples different reasons.
When I was about 7-8, I asked my mum what i would have been called if I had been born a girl. She said to ask my dad because he had chosen my name. He told me they didn't know what sex I would be so he had picked names for both. Rhiannon was his second choice after Bronwyn. I can even remember arguing with my brother after suggesting he should find out his girls name, but he was not impressed with the idea.
It was in my mid teens when Rhiannon started to develop and I used the name as a password for my school computer account. The more I found out about my name the more I felt attached to it, and I have used it pretty much ever since. I have never settled on a surname, I've used a variety of different ones over the years but only ever as a temporary choice when needed.

Rhiannon is the name of a singer in second life - she was on at our club last night and it was an awesome performance.

Just so you know, Davina is a feminine form of my normal name and (M)ichelle is a feminine version of my middle name.
The femme music producer alter ego is Dee Emma, you get that after saying my initials (dmr) quite a few times.

Interesting question...and some interesting and amusing replies.
I went through a couple of names until I came up with this one and it really appealed to me:

Cassandra, the daughter of King Priam and Queen Hecuba of Troy. Her beauty caused Apollo to grant her the gift of prophecy but in rejecting his advances she was cursed never to be believed.
Morgan (my middle name) after Morgana le Fey from Arthurian legend, and also after Morgan de Toi, one of my favourite design houses.
Carter, because it goes nicely with the other names and binds me back to the earth through its derivation from one who transports goods by cart or wagon. My grandad was a long distance lorry driver so it reminds me of him as well.

I often shorten my first name to Cassie, just because it sounds less formal.

    xx

The first name is a variation of mine, the last my middle initial or name, fortunate enough I suppose that it fits as a last name...more or less me with a twist of course, seemed appropriate given that I am more or less me with a twist...

I went out with my best friend, who after a few drinks came out of the closet and told me she was gay.
I just said to her,i suppose its my turn now then, and after i composed myself i told her about being trannie.Shocked is an under-statement!
Next night, she invited me round her house and two of her friends were there,i dressed upstairs(a bag of nerves).I came down and one of her friends,an air-hostess put make-up on me,they all asked if i had a femme name,i said no,not really.
After some conversation,Katrina was mentioned and i just loved it,so thats me Katrina.
Having met some really nice girls, you know who you are,i started to get called Kat and that has now stuck.
So,here i am girls,Kat or Katrina and pleased to meet you all
    xxxxx.
