High heels - how to walk / dance like a girl in them?

I'm still learning about this subject which is why I thought it would be a good discussion to have and for some advice from more experienced girls here.

I have bought many pairs of gorgeous heels, mostly mail order (especially ebay) and some from discount shops and even Asda and Tesco. Having learnt at relatively low cost - financially that is - and from the pain some have given my poor feet , my experiences and feeling on heels are that:

    - The most important thing is finding a pair that fit properly to walk any distance in, so I am going to go somewhere and spend a little time and maybe more pennies on this. Lower heeled court shoes can still be nice and much less intense on the feet and I do have some pretty little flats too but there is NOTHING to match the effect and sexiness of high heels - is there?

I have some nice 4 and 5" heels for photos that when I tried to walk 10 mins round the block almost crippled me. One pair was too small so my toes hurt and got blistered and I could not walk in a nice delicate femme way. Another was slightly too large as I have odd sized feet (by half a size - quite common). Even with heel grips and various other sticky things inside they still slipped and I could not walk far in them. I suppose this is the experience of women in everyday life. Like clothes, you may see something you like but it may not suit your body shape etc. The same seems to be the case with shoes and feet.

This is a part of my tgirl learning curve I feel. There are some quite good videos on You Tube which amused me especially one from 'Lana' ( who i think is a fab and gorgeous woman) whose post can be found here (I like the 'heel, Barbie toe' bit lol) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6XZXC12fDI

What are your experiences of shoes, esp high heels and what tips, pitfalls and comments could you share re heels and how do you dance in them??

Many thanks ladies and best wishes. looking forward to some feedback. Mandy xxx

I will contribute more than this - but no matter how comfy a pair of heels feel that you borrow - do not under any circumstance wear them without any back up - if its the first time you have tried them - did that ended up wearing these quite high and awful toe squishing shoes around manchester and then walking another 3 miles on top of that. This in January when my body should have been worrying about being freezing - it was agony!!!

I think the best advice is always to watch classy feminine women in heels and note how they do it ?

They do not have the rolling gait of a man, ie: heel toe, heel toe ...? Rather, with each step, they tend to place their weight on the front balls of the foot, ... ( an exciting visual for some SM girls, I'm sure ! ) ... This can cause some shin soreness because it's kinda like walking on tip toes, but the more you practice the more synchronous and immediate becomes the shift of inertia to the heel. If you can maintain a graceful swing of the hips as you sashay down High Street you are getting there !!!!! The whole art of walking in heels is not just a foot thing, it goes right up through the whole body ... It is a rhythm girls !!!

And as for dancing in heels, again, I find staying on the front balls of your feet at least prevents you from falling over and looking like a drunken slut !!

Other girls may differ, but I just think practice makes perfect !! ??? ...nicky XXX

The thing a number of real girls said to me when I was on a night out in heels with them (after about three hours of barhopping) when I mentioned that my feet were killing me was, "now you know how we feel after a night out in heels" - so I am not 100% sure there is any magical method, just, as Nicky and April said, practice so you become more accustomed to them.
Having said all that I still totter like Thunderbird puppet in anything over three inches and I have been practicing for years!

    Have fun practicing

As for dancing in heels - every one said Fred Astaire was fantastic....Ginger Rogers did the same steps backwards in heels
Like Marianne said ...have fun practicing xxx

Thanks for the feedback girls! P, I did look around to see if there was a thread I could come in on but thought it was worth a discussion anyway. It did make me laugh when I was out in Liverpool the other Saturday night watching what women did in heels and as April and Nicky have said, they have trouble doing it too and wow when they f it up they are all over the place too lmao. So reassuring! My ex said to me she can't walk far in her killers either (funny she really got me into all this in the first place the kinky bitch lol) so I guess this is reality as Marianne said; now we know how they feel... April, I had that nightmare a few weeks ago without backup. I'll always have some flats in my bag now as I was in agony for a mile, looked good I think in every way bar my limp haha! All part and parcel of this thing hey. Thankyou girls... xxx

I buy my walking/dancing shoes from M&S who do range with padded soles. I used to wear heels a lot when younger but it has got more difficult with age with permanetley crunched toes! The secret is to buy/find a really comfortable pair....and that can take some doing! (although I got a pair of ankle boots from Matalan's new spring range recently and for no obvious reason they are really really comfortable!) ...then wear them and when you forget your wearing them, you will find that you tend to walk more elegantly! generally the more ankle support you can get the easier and more comfortable the shoe! sorry just chucking in my penny's worth!

I have ingrowing toenails ( from walking in heels for years)...and the chiropodist said to me that he only usually saw them on RGs who wore stilettos a lot. I just smiled. As you get older its more difficult to walk as far in them - so on a night out always pack your flats in your handbag
As I promised earlier here are some links on how to walk in heels :-

I got all of these by googling "How to walk in high heels" There were a couple of videos too
and several other articles. I hope it helps and Andrea's advice is bang on - especially about wearing comfortable heels. I like the winter better cos my boots are easy to walk in - I have pairs in several colors and they are all comfortable and easy to walk in.

P, thanks hunni for doing this. You're so good! Sorry to have grinned widely re your ingrown toenails and doc story. My feet are knackered from years of football boots, next to heels for f'ing up your toes and nails. I'm really a glutton for punishment. Andrea I am off to M&S to have a nose this weekend. Mandy, Not sure what size you are but Evans do sizes up to 11 or 12 and wide fittings ( so E and EEE) . They have a sale on right now - both shops and on line - so have a look at their flat shoes. I know the clothes are too big for a girlie like you - but maybe the shoes canb help; and they often share shops with Dorothy Perkins , so check them out. hugs P xxx

Ooh, from the hips, weight on the toes & shorter steps. OR, cheat like me & get 5 or 6 inch heels but with a platform, so the actual angle is more like that of a 2 or 3 inch heel (I'm one of those girls like tipsy drag queens in stilettos!)

The other thing is its not just t-girls who have problems! I know many GGirlfriends who have nightmares with very high heels and as Pauline syas take flats to wear before and after an elegant date or when out clubbing I have had one Ggirlfriend hang on to me when wearing high heels when out together, she calls me her helpful oil rig! long legs very heavy and well planted on the seafloor! and judging by this clip all us sisters have problems!!!

There is an "in use " report from the D Mail about the new M&S pain free heels... it doesnt show which ones, so I guess you will have to look for the insolia sticker or range, and be less than a size 8.

A lot of this is down to how you walk. As has been hinted at in previous posts Men and Women walk very differently. Next time you're out and about take a look. Men seem to naturally walk from the shoulders whereas Women tend to walk from the hips.

Best advice I was given is shoulders pushed back and down and walk keeping the head as still as possible. Also try to keep your feet walking in a straight line as opposed to a Man's tendency to walk with the feet outwards.

As has already been said, practice, practice and practice. xxx

when i was much younger, i could stomp around in 4" heels allday, but due to spinal stenosis, i have to wear very low or flat shoes, my legs are part numb and my feet feel like foam rubber and i have to be very careful as not to go arse over tit, so no heels for me now, sob. and i have to use crutches all the time now, so it is more cleaning, i ask you 3 crutches to wash lol. love collette XXX.

Huggzzz- yeah guess the important thing to remember is that the stenosis can keep you physically grounded but your imagination and humour lets you fly like the rest off us loonies

well girl if i didn't have a bizarre imagination and a morbid sense of humour i think i would be a box by now or a sad old tranny feeling sorry for itself, not for me girl this old trogg is around for a bit yet and if taking the micky out of myself makes someone smile, then it cannot be too bad, what i cannot work out i can walk on 4" goth boots, maybe it is the surface area which gives me a bit more stability, who knows ? love collette XXX.

Caution: After a wonderful exotic holiday and resulting gorgeous tanned legs, I figured mini-skirt, bare legs and a splattering of baby oil would show off my smooth tanned legs perfectly. Add some six inch hooker shoes and perfection! But result: baby oil on legs gets under heel straps and I'm falling off em like a drunken lush! Be careful what you lubricate! xxxxx

Hi all, about 3 years ago I worked for a dairy delivering milk into shops. For comic releif day i decided to do my deliveries in a black miniskirt, little top and high heeled boots...I delivered to 45 shops and the whole round took me 10 hours from 3am ..After finishing and getting home I changed into more high heels, walked into town and had a makeover in my local chemist, then trotted across town into a couple of pubs, one of which had a dance floor so I had a boogie for an hour or so then walked the mile home...All ok until i got out of bed in the morning and collapsed onto my knees, my feet could not bear my weight on them..When I looked at my feet they were black with bruises!! For the next week I had to slob around in some soft cheap trainers..lol April Harvey ..xxx
