“There is nothing I would not do for those who are really my friends. I have no notion of loving people by halves, it is not my nature.”
    ~ Jane Austen, Northanger Abbey

'A friend is one that knows you as you are, understands where you have been, accepts what you have become, and still, gently allows you to grow' ~ William Shakespeare

I didn't put any of these before as I wasn't sure they were all by Lewis Carroll but here they are:

I'm not strange, weird, off, nor crazy, my reality is just different from yours.
I'm afraid I can't explain myself, sir. Because I am not myself, you see?
“How puzzling all these changes are! I'm never sure what I'm going to be, from one minute to another.

I'm always amazed that there are always so many relevant quotes from someone who wrote so little but so much.

'I have many reasons for believing that the truth purges one from fear. Many of us who, in recent years, strove to speak the truth in spite of everything were able to maintain an inner perspective, a willingness to endure, a sense of proportion, an ability to understand and forgive our neighbours, and a light heart only because we were speaking the truth. Otherwise, we might have perished from despair.'

    ~ Vaclav Havel

'Secrets sap us and stunt our growth; they can become huge, dominate our lives. When we hold something in, it becomes a great burden, difficult to shed. Grasp the relief of exposure. The dignity in risk. You might be surprised at the outcome, for it's amazing how much support you get when you tell the truth.'

I don't know who wrote this, but I like it.

I'm ok darling. Waiting for the kitten to settle down, so I can take her to bed. She's having a funny half hour.

Another scene from Dangerous Liaisons that I love.

'Vicomte de Valmont: You see, I have no intention of breaking down her prejudices. I want her to believe in God and virtue and the sanctity of marriage, and still not be able to stop herself. I want the excitement of watching her betray everything that's is most important to her. Surely you understand that. I thought betrayal was your favorite word.
Marquise de Merteuil: No, no..."cruelty." I always think that has a nobler ring to it.'

    ~Again, Dangerous Liaisons.

de Laclos was a Napoleonic general (I think) - but it was the only book he wrote - an epistolatory novel - like a series of letters between Valmont and Merteuil

I wasn't as keen on the other film, but that's because my preference is for period pieces. :-)
