Oh I like to be of service and anyway, isn't lively debate what these forums are about... and if we all agreed all of the time, wouldn't it be a boring place... variety is the spice of life.

I have a late lunch hour and what's happened - 40 odd emails on this stream. And when I say ODD I mean ODD. At least they made me laugh.
English is an amalgam language which resulted in the clash between the Latin based languages (French, Spanish) and the Germanic languages. As no one could understand each other they merged and dropped almost everything. It has borrowed more words from other languages than any other and is still evolving today!

    Well....how can trannies be normal?

And if you listen to or speak Chaucer with a Flemish accent its easy to understand. Which it for sure wasn't when I had the chore of reading it 1st time round.

As to hun....wherever it comes from I HATE it

Why has this subject degenerated into a history of the English language and people typing stuff from foreign lands. The subject was about being called "Hun" which i dislike because i associate it with being called a Hun although i know it isn't meant that way.
If we were on about language i would be asking why no one has managed to spell my name correctly whilst addressing me, but it's not it's about being called Hun.
Grrrrrr sorry i shall be quiet now.

Sireag...i did try to get it back on track...but gave up. A discourse on the origins of English as a language was never my intention...

Threads do sometimes go in different directions to the originator's intent...thats Transtastic for you.
