The Use of the word Hun

    I hate being called hun.

Yes, Yes. I do know that it's supposed to be a term of affection, a shortened version of honey. And its very common in the TG community to call everyone that. However I figure that as I took the time to choose my femme name... that people should call me by that and NOT hun or honey, or babe or sweetie or any other epithet.

Mostly I hate being called hun, because I am not a follower of Atilla nor a German fighting in WWI. And I figure people who call me hun or babe are just lazy.

How do the rest of you feel? And I know that lots of our American sisters hate it too...they have hon as well. Maybe you all love being called hun?

Good point and no excuse really for not using someone`s name providing you know it, sometimes when meeting someone for a first time you may use some of these shorthands, i don`t care for them much either, hun, babe, dear,or whatever, it`s nice ti be called by your name rather than any of these things, total strangers have actually managed it with me,it only takes a bit of effort and means a lot to most girls deep down.

Have to agree with you there Pauline, although if I know someone well enough then happy with honey, or babe, but please not hun!!

Up here 'hun' is a derogitory term for a supporter of a Glasgow football team, and as I don't support any of the 'Old Firm' then please refrain from it.

I do tend to use honey quite a bit, however if I know someone doesn't like it then I will use their name all the time. But each to their own, and I won't get offended unless it is a first contact!!!

I totally agree with your comments Pauline. It is not nice to be addressed especially by someone you do not know as "hun" etc and I usually snap their head off. Like you I chose a fem name and prefer being called by that.

I can see why one of my friends hates being called Hun as she is Jewish and her family came from Germany (well most of them). Mainly because of this I tend noy to use it either. However, there are a couple of other friends who use it all the time but as they are long times friends I don't mind much.
I would react badly if a new acquaintance calls me Hun, I do prefer my name or at least a shortened form and as for Sexy, well!

Got to agree regards 'Hun', although I don't mind being called honey in a light humoruos situation when just messing around or jokingly.

I like using the term girl in an an affectionat way which I hope is inoffencive, such as when saying 'good on you girl'

If I haven't been introduced to someone it might be OK for them to call me 'hun' but I would prefer 'sweetheart'.
Either would be preferable though to 'mate'!

I'm surprised none of out scottish members haven't picked up on this thread... many Scots don't like being called 'Hun' as some take it as an insult.... I just googled as to why some scottish people frown when they get called it...

Lisa - I think if you look at Suzy's posting about Glasgow football and Sireag's that some of us do see it as an insult way beyond my light hearted (but accurate) poke at the lazy prats who cant be bothered to remember our names. P xxx

Must confess "Hun" drives me potty, like Pauline I'm not a relative of Atilla or a WW1 German, that said, I don't mind "Hon" the correct shortened version of Honey, or indeed Sweetie, Darling or any of the other forms of affection, and in a lot of cases, especially typed, it depends how well I know the other person and what else they say along with it, for instance masses of Text speak and "Hun" together is a complete turn off, whereas a well thought out sentence containing "Sweetie" would be fine. I know all this makes me sound like a right madam, but I went to Grammar school and I like the Queen's English used correctly. Amy xxx
