Yes I remember Cover Girl well. They used to advertise in Exchange and Mart, which was the only publication with a section especially for cross-dressers.
Saved up and bought my first ever pair of heels there on a trip to London. Black, 6" heels and a delight to wear. (They were £25 for years ... a lot of money then!)
Now with the internet buying shoes is so much easier but there is always the problem that sizes vary so much.
I also remember buying a pair from Hayway Shoes in Leicester. No problems in buying shoes there, you could see them being made and you could discuss styles and heel heights and try on as many pairs until you found the right ones. Such a shame that they closed, but they could not compete with the cheap imports.
Now ove 60 I still adore my heels, and like all girls cannot buy enough of them.

My first pair of heels was 3 inches and the second 4 inches. I did try a pair of 5.5 inch heels in Aldo on Oxford Street but it had a 0.5 platform. I could stand and totter but walk - never. Oh I was in male clothes at the time and the men's department manager has a photo of me as his customer of the day wearing the heels. I didn't buy them as they were still too expensive. Must go back and try again some day.....

mmmm shoooooes ! oops sorry i slipped away for a second there , i tend to choose what shoes to wear according to what outfit i wear ( as im sure we all generally do ) but ive got to say that my favourites are my black suede peep toe 5 inch stilletoes , or my black patent 4 inch with a nice little strap just behind the toes . but i would love the 7 inch in your picture , they are just so sexy , i dont know how long i could wear them before my calves exploded and my legs turned to jelly but i would give it a damn good try !

The highest I can still comfortably walk in is 5" heels though I do have a pair of 7.5" heeled boots that I can just about manage to stand in.... just don't ask me to move around or else I'll be falling down in a very unladylike fashion!

a long time ago i once wore a pair of 6 inch. that was when i was young and living in earls court. now i am lucky if i can manage to walk at all, i normally wear a very low shoe now, but it would be nice to wear a nice pair of heels [say 4 inch,] because when i lived in hull i could wear a 4 inch all day. love collette XXX.

My daughter had her engagement party at our house last night! The evening was set over to her friends. A quick survey of the girls (about 20 real girls in their early ish 20s), showed that most wore heels only 4-5 wore flats. The bight of the heels was from 3 to 5 inches. Those I was able to talk to about their heels said theyd only go higher with platforms. One girl did have 6.5 inch heels but with a 1 inch platford. Most admitted they only wore the higher heels for partying when they did little walking!
