I think that for many of us the popular music we listened to in our teenage years influences our tastes. Whether we expand and look at other forms of music I am not sure - that as with many things is personal choice.
Prior to the 1960's it was hard to listen to much beyond easy listening or classical music in the UK, as there was only the BBC playing music - with the exception of Radio Luxembourg.
The Beatles changed many things - partly by writing their own music, but also by exposing the white and US mass teenage markets to black music - and for opening the doors wide to a host of new talented artists on both sides of the Atlantic.
As a student in the late 60's I was lucky enough to see many bands and artists live - from Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Roy Orbison, the Kinks, The Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, The Nice, Geno Washington, to the Yardbirds and the Hollies. There must have been others but they dont spring to mind right now.
I had friends who loved blues or jazz or ska - so I heard lots of that as well over the years. On reflection my favorite music is soul and Tamla Motown - especially artists like Marvin Gaye and Gladys Knight...not forgetting Tina Turner who I finally saw live on her 50 year anniversary tour. The Beatles are not really on my list of faves - yes they were very talented, and some of their songs are classics.
And as well as them I like rockabilly - so early Elvis, Eddie Cochran and Buddy Holly - and I find Nat King Cole, Sinatra and Dean Martin very pleasant. And out of so called rock or popular music - Abba, Roy Orbison,Tim Buckley (father of Jeff Buckley).....the list is endless
Classical music - some opera and some composers pieces ....from Mozart to the 3 Tenors
I guess I am like many - its often a particular song ...like The Winner Takes it All or Simply the Best illustrate my point. And there isn't much I dont like - maybe heavy metal and rap and atonal classical music, but within those genres there are performers that I like...Millie Jackson as an original rapper springs to mind. Maybe I just live in a time warp musically?

Morgana's taste in music is quite specific - if the question is 'What gets her up and ready?' whether in the house or in a club, then the answer would be any classic heavy rock, cheesy 80s/90s pop, 30s/40s cabaret and trad jazz, depending on her mood. SHe has no idea about current trends or musical acts. Some all-time faves include ACDC, Def Leppard, Hardline, Jeff Beck, Lenny Kravitz, Bowie, Kim Wilde, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop/Stooges, Guns N Roses, Genitorturers, Twisted Sister, Kelly Clarkson, Queen, Golden Earring...I could go on, but you get the idea. And yes, her male counterpart thinks some of her musical taste is in her arse, too :/
