I need help.

I won't buy shoes.

Don't get me wrong I have bought shoes, but generally I'm finding it difficult... why?

a. Shoes are too expensive, ok they're a good investment if they fit good if they're comfy, but we just don't know that until we've worn them for a couple of weeks and good money for 2 weeks discomfort!?!

b. I'm a bit scared going into shoe shops.... I think I find women scary... I especially find those shoes shops that are just shoe shops difficult.

C. I talk myself out of every pair of shoes I meet. I just find things wrong with them.

Bear in mind that I have a bad knee and so high heels aren't a good idea, what I need and I know this is a thing of me to ask you all for if you can all choose a pair of shoes for me, something that I can wear to walk a couple of miles in, something I can go shopping in, but something that doesn't look...... totaly undressy, lkke at the moment I have the white plimsoles, somewhat practical, but I need something less sweaty anyhow, something I can wear without any socks.

My favourite colours are brown, green.

It's a long shot I know, but I really need to break this, I need to feel comfotable and happy to go and buy a pair of shoes.

Hi Janet. Most men have difficulty finding women's shoes that fit comfortably as they tend to have wider feet.
I know some people will groan at my suggestion but have you tried Evans (the plus size women's wear shop). Whilst some of their shoes are for what we might call "the blue rinse brigade", they have many modish styles especially their wedges and sandals. Nearly all there shoes are extra wide fitting (EEE) and I have found, after years of painfully trying to break in women's size 11's or 10's that I am actually a size 9 EEE !
Provided you are open and pleasant you will find Evan's staff are very accepting and extremely helpful (after all, it's your money they want). I go either dressed or in 'drab' - it makes no difference to them although you will need to look fairly reasonable if you go 'en femme'. You need to make a personal visit to find out if their wide fittings do suit you and if they do you can then order confidently from their website. Their prices are quite reasonable and they are forever having sales and special offers; I've never paid more than about £25 for a pair.
An alternative, if you find such personal shopping embarassing and you are a regular fit no larger than size 8 could be George at Asda. They have a reasonable range of extremely cheap shoes. You could sneak off into a corner to try them on and then take them to the grocery self check-out to pay for them.
Any woman or self-respecting trannie cannot have too many shoes!

No no, thanks for that. Its not somuch the fitting... & ironically enough, yesterdayfound myself in Monsoon! of all places, in amongst the women, no strong reactions I had some confidence from somewhere, but... "no shoes" there were some I quite liked, in brown or pink, but they didn't have my size in brown and the pink was too milkshake pink... I dunno, argued myself out of shoes again...

I myself have slagged asda off and probably evans, but at the same time sometimes i'll buy from them if they have what I want at the right price.

It is breaking the psychology of a lifetime of buying drab shoes I guess....

Primark have some wide fittings and stock up to sz 9. One good thing is that sz 8 and 9 often end up on their sale display, though lots of styles aren't best for lots of walking, at their prices it is difficult to resist more shoes...!

Like Trines I've found Evans to be a good shop for larger and wider feet. I also have difficulty walking in high narrow heels, so my choice is usually block heels 1 or 2" high. xxx

Asda go up to a size 9 which are basically an 8 - 8 and a half and they have a great selection of flats with canvas tops for £6-£10. Like Trines says you can try them on the shop. If they fit the great thing is that they are always the same size - so you can buy them in future without trying them on. I must have about 20 pairs of their flats, and find them useful as these days I don't wear heels as much as I used to.

Tesco have a small range of wide fittings up to size 8 and New Look go up to size 9.

Some other options are the Shoe Tailor which is only on line, but if they don't fit you can send them back. They go up to size 9 and EEEE fittings and often have reduced items - end of range, sales.

And Bon Prix has a small selection of shoes up to size 10 (44) - check out their website. Similar to Shoe Tailor, you can send back if they don't fit.

As Sandy says Primark do a wide range up to a 9....which is like Asda nearer to an 8 and half but the wider fitting helps them to fit. And a big plus, they are not expensive.

I am guessing you are not above an 8 as you were trying on shoes in Monsoon, as I know its tricky to find shoes above a size 8 or 9, and there has been some petitioning from other girls here to get New Look to make bigger sizes, see forum here

The other possibilities are La Redoute up to a size 43 (genuine) and JustFab up to size 8 - both are on line only.

Mostly this thread is about me needing to ditch my inhibihitions about clothes wearing, but no it seems my worst problem is inhibition in shoe buying! I'm such a disgrace ;p

H&M looking, looking, still not managing to convince myself, still finding excuses not to buy... tut tut tu!

Walked around, just enjoying myself, walking back towards car park, go into New Look, they have some nice shoes in New Look, but they are pricey... gawd, I don't help myself huh, making myself seem cheap...

So, talked myself out of New Look shoes, but wait, H&M I did quite like the shoes, and they were considerably less cost... so I'm back in H&M, choosing, choosing, chosen!, looking at boots, looking at and got myself two lovely hair clips, yes!

They have over the knee socks in the reduced section, which can be really difficult to find, but the colour wasn't appealing..., so over to the checkout, the girl at the till looked panic stricken, but we were calm, and best of all we were both polite with each other and by the end of it she warmly wished me a good dayyes!!!!!

ok. This is good, but the shoes are black, a bit boring perhaps, so step one accomplished, but I have got to go and puch the boat a bit further!

extra: I was in shopping centre, wanted to get the shoes on... but people would see me changing my shoes :wah: there is some seating, I can use that, everytime I walk to the seat people stand by it, or near kit, :grrrr:

but no, I am sat down now, :wah: the shoes are still tied togther with elastic!!!!! Why didn't I ask the shop girl to cut it for me?! but I am sat there and determined, and I undo the knot ( I am good at undoing knots), the shoes are on!I feel like the most special person.

I just bought some reasonably priced shoes at Deichmann on their online store. I'm a UK size 10, and although they are a little narrow they are fab. I got two pairs for less than £30 plus the delivery was free. They also had pre-printed returns slips in case they needed to go back. I hope this is helpful, and gives you some more options.
