I do know that since the days of Little Richard ( the guy in the photo for those who don't know who he is/was) that hot saxophones have been an essential part of rock music and soul music. Whether it was that amazing sax player who supported Tina Turner, or Lou Reeds Walk on the Wild Side the saxophone gives an added dimension and vibrancy.
What do you think (and please more answers than Jady). Is the sax part of rock, or is rock only guitars and drums? Surely not - what about other instruments.....like organs?
You only need to Listen to our very own "TG Angels" to know the Sax played by Jady on their version of Rock n Roll is Awesome ! have a listen - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZN9VKU2RQVA
Courtney is into 'grunge' ... a very small section of rock and roll, I personally love sax and have worked with some excellent sax players in my lengthy career... sax is sexy!
Hell yeah...
e.g early Hawkwind (Nik Turner's fab)
Breaking Glass by Hazel O' Connor
X-Ray Spex...girlie punk with sax solos yet!
Plus most of Roxy Music's best early stuff...and my all-time fave sax mo' ...China in Your Hand by T'Pau
We always had a sax player in our basement bands in the 60s. There is a lot of rock you can't play without a sax and besides Jack was my best friend.
A lott of the stuff your on about though is after my time. I had moved on to Paul Desmond and Fraser MacPherson

Rock is very much a style of music and a style that can be played on multiple different instruments, providing certain principles are being adhered to then any instrument can be used, from flutes as used by Jethro Tull and Cello's used brilliantly by the duo 2 Cellos.
