This guy was one of my heroes when I was growing up in the 60s and 70s. Not only did he have an amazing voice and did so many good duets with Tami Terrell and Diana Ross - he also wrote some of the best ever songs for Tamla Motown.
If you listen to this programme - no visuals sadly - then you will find out that his dad (who shot him) was a tranny, which I never ever knew. So not a great role model to have as a father, all of us maybe have tried to balance being a dad and being a tranny? Sadky his dad sounds like a prat.
There are some judgmental comments from his ex wife, but they all clearly loved him for the marvellous man he was - especially as a singer. If you have never heard his music then take some time out to listen to his voice and lyrics.
Please listen to the BBC programme - and find out about some new factoids and listen to some special music in between, and then have a look at the Wiki link and the one to marvin gaye website about his life and music.
Like all of us he was far from perfect, but he has left all of us a legacy in his music
hugs
