I first started using make-up in 1973.
I think I look a lot better (and perhaps a little younger) when I've got the daytime slap on in the morning. I usually try for glamorous when I'm going out, but occasionally just tart up the shadow and change my lipstick when I'm going down the local (not that anybody notices - it's a very blokey pub and they're all too busy watching football to notice what a female is wearing).
I've never had lessons or been for a makeover, Been meaning to go for a makeover for thirty years - never seem to have the time.
First of all, I gave up trying to pass a long time ago. I wouldn't pass in a burkha at midnight. But it doesn't stop me trying. I think most of what I know about make-up comes from listening to other girls, and experimenting.
Over the years I've tried all sorts of looks. I've finally settled on mutton dressed as lizard.
Did you practice a lot before you got to be "any good"? Short answer is yes. Occasionally before, and every day since the mid 90s. Trouble is, my face has changed by the time I've got any good. Especially over the last couple of years with the hormones, I think as changes happen to your face and make-up technology gets better, the art of make-up will continually evolve. I'll hopefully still be trying when I reach 100!

Will write more later but ......
Started as soon as I won't out. Never had real lessons but had a very helpful RG for my first photo shoot - I did what she said! Been for a make over at Boots - worth it. Who did I learn from, wife and two daughters in 20s. Do I practice, yes as often as I can. This has help me change styles and to know the difference between daytime, party and OTT. Do I look different, I'm told I do (and by RGs)

I started using makeup about 4 years ago, and I looked like an extra from a zombie film!! Fortunately I had help and over time I've started to look better, well maybe lol. Don't get much practice these days, but I do take my time to ensure I look my best

God I feel old - first eye shadow and lippy back in the 1970s. I thought I looked good but fortunately there were no digital cameras around back then. To be fair to an institution that does not always get the best press here I used a leaflet I was given at "Transformation" (the one by Euston Station in Eversholt Street London) as a basic guide. It had useful tips and then I discovered that a combination of practice and experimentation created a far better look than my early attempts at house painting! Marianne

Does wearing your mum's lipstick aged 6 count?
I bought my own first lot in about 1985. God, the colours were horrendous back then.
I don't think anybody could look good in electric blue.
A couple of years ago, when I gave up on the roles I was playing and went back to being me, I got some more. I've not got enough yet!
Does makeup change my face? Definitely.
Can I do it properly yet? Nope.
I spent 4 hours one day just applying, removing and trying again with eye make up. It's hard to get it right, but when you do, it's like "wow". I think the eyes are the most important bits to get right. They can change the way your entire face looks, almost as much as a wig. I've just about settled on a 'palette', but I reckon I could do with a lesson, or ten.
I've mainly learned by practice and by watching You Tube videos. Something I didn't have in 1985. There was a lot of things I didn't have in 1985 (heels, Veet, a slip), but at least I had my own hair.
I'd suggest putting up a with and without picture set...but it's not Halloween yet, and we don't want to scare the kids!

Down the years, I have had about 6 sessions at Transformation shops - Euston, Birmingham, Newcastle, and was always pleased with the results. However, since I discovered Ann's Dressing Service at the Philbeach, where the make-up was done by tgirls rather than real girls, I found that tgirls were just as competent, if not more so than the "professionals", and a fraction of the price. Sybil and Ann always did an excellent job on my rather old and craggy face. I miss them greatly.
My main difficulty is what should be the simplest - the foundation. I never seem to hit the right balance, and I won't do anything with my eyes or lips unless the foundation is correct. I think I need to go to a good dressing service!
