Why do so many have two femme names?

I was baptised with three forenames. The first is the name I use all the time while the other two are really just for family - preserving family traditions. I never used these names in normal life. When I started getting involved in the trans community and needed a femme name I went back to a childhood name which I liked and could be feminine.
Now when I'm asked for my name I say Josephine or Jo to which I get asked, is that all. Yes that's me. But looking at the names on the site so many are double barrelled or two names or even double barrelled and a second. Where did this come from and why?
In my case I can't think of anything I'd want to put with Jo to double barrel it unless it was JoJo.

Maybe the need to have more than one femme name? Sometimes I am Pauline Nicola...and only adopted the name Smith as a family name because my drab one is very rare.

Or was its origins in the USA, derived from the US business protocol of having a middle initial on your visit card?

As to where it came from......who knows? Interesting idea though

My excuse is a bit more straight forward... when I first started to go out a few years ago I plucked a fem name out of the sky, I've no idea where 'Lisa' came from, I didn't know any ''Lisa's''... but as time went by and I started to transition I wanted to keep my real name, luckily it's a unisex name, just spelt slightly different, but as I'd got to know so many people I've decided to keep ''Lisa'' as a middle name but still use it as it kept things simple... I'm only using my full real name for official stuff like banks, tax, national insurance and work etc...

Wilde is my real surname, but I did change it back in 1995 for personal reasons, I don't disclose what my original surname was but I did keep name my first name.

I think the double barrel names come because we can be whoever we want to be. So why not? I also think I want a 'title' too... Here goes...

I don't have 2 names, just the one. My wife insists on calling me Kittie in the house as to show that she sees me as the person I am inside aswell as on the out. She stills calls me by my male name in public, my actual male name is quite the opposite from my female name and the the reason this was chosen as not to make slip ups outside if we are with friends

Lets see then i have three real forenames, none of them remotely like anything i`m called as a girl. Way back i started off as a Stephie, which was too close to the male name so i came up with Fiona after an ex girlfriend, and for a while on another clapped out website, home of stupid names i was Miss Fiona Jane, decided to simplify that and have a more realistic name and the same one anywhere on every site i`m still on so it`s been Fiona Cole now for quite some time, i can still be Fiona Jane Darkwhip Cole if i want to be pompus, which is something i`m not !.
