This just in from RDF Television...

    Email : elle.mower@rdftelevision.com

    Hi there,

I hope you don’t mind me contacting you, I’m emailing from a production company called RDF Television. I have just joined the team on an exciting documentary series following transgender individuals and was told about your work at Northern Pride last weekend by a transwoman I met.

I was hoping you might be kind enough to help us spread the word about our series to any interested parties at Transtastic as we are still looking for people to take part. If you would be able to, it would be so helpful if you could post our e-flyer on your social media profiles or maybe send information out in a newsletter – I could send you some approved wording as a guide to save you time? Also I could send you some hard copies of the flyer to put out wherever you think appropriate? We’re still looking to hear from people across the UK so help from yourselves would be gratefully received.

    WHAT ARE WE MAKING?

The documentary is a landmark 4-part series about transgender individuals being made over of 2-3 years, documenting the unique transitioning experience of 12 individuals. No other series has attempted to show the transitioning process as fully as this, making it a unique and exciting project to be involved in. We have been lucky enough to have already begun filming with some fantastic people who are sharing their journeys, however we do have room for a few more.

The project has been commissioned by a major British Broadcaster, as a four-part observational documentary series. We think it’s crucial to focus on all aspects of what it is to each individual to transition, not just the physical changes. Across the series we hope to film appointments with medical professionals; discussions with family, friends or work colleagues; the start of hormone treatment; everyday life and important moments; and for those opting for it, surgical procedures.

    WHO ARE WE?

RDF Television is one of Britain’s most respected and successful production companies and has made programmes including Secret Millionaire (C4), Secret Life of 4 Year Olds (C4), 100 Year Old Drivers (ITV) and Inside the National Trust (ITV). Whether we’re filming with individuals or large organisations, collaboration is absolutely at the heart of our approach to documentary making. We want the people that we work with to be part of the film-making process – and most importantly to be proud of the programme that ultimately goes to air.

    OUR DUTY OF CARE

We are absolutely committed to creating an accurate representation of transgender individuals in our series. This is a landmark project and something we don’t believe has ever been done before so it’s very exciting. We hope to seek guidance from and collaborate with trusted and respected professionals from an early stage, to ensure this series is the best it can possibly be. We’d love to have the support and backing from as many people as we can in the making of it.

Several producers on the team have worked on programmes about transgender individuals before, so we have both a genuine interest in the subject matter and a good understanding of the issues. We are also seeking the advice and support of people within the trans community throughout the production process.

Please let me know if you require any further information, I look forward to hearing from you.

    All the best,
    Elle
