Anyone know what this type of skirt is called?

Right, this is going to be hard to describe, but here goes...
I recently saw a girl wearing this sort of skirt and fell in love with it. Almost plucked up the courage to ask her where she had bought it, but chickened out at the last.
Skirt was sort of like a ballet tutu, wide and VERY short, sort of like a flower opening, if that makes any sense. I thought it might be a puffball, but was pretty sure I was wrong about that (I was). Basically it's flat but sort of curves upward, like a ballerina's skiirt, and I can't be sure but I think it may have been the skirt of a dress. Very young, very hip, very very very sexy, and I want one!

I know I should have taken a pic, but these things can get seriously misconstrued, and even the "real" explaination would have been very embarrassing, had I to give it.

So, does anyone know what I'm talking about? I'm hoping to see the skirt again somewhere else so I can look for one even on ebay, but without knowing what they're called it's more than difficult.

Anyone with any ideas please let me know.
    Thx
    Stacey-Lynn

Try looking in Primark or Next , though Primark has lousy website so you would need to visit a store. Have a look at Bon Prix or La Redoute websites - they are catalogues but on line ( welkl here in UK) and cater for all sizes.
Maybe its a tulip skirt? Ra Ra skirts + dresses also making a comeback, but i dont think it was them
Good luck !! Hugs Pauline xxxxxxxxxx

Hi Paula (case of multiple post fairy there!) --- no it's not a tutu per se. I know those --- I have a few --- but this was a full skirt. It shared some similarities with a tutu, but somehow I think it was something else.
Have still had no luck. Even asked the girl in the dress shop I frequent, described it to her. She thought it may have been purposely-built?
    The search goes on....

    OK, I see it now.
Yeah it's something similar, but as I recall where that one sort of goes down from the waist, the one I saw went up, sort of like petals on a flower. As I recall..

Sounds like a skater dress to me! if you google 'skater dress' you'll see lots of examples and can see if it's what you saw! they are very girly as the skirt is short and cut from a large circle, ususally with a quite tight bodice!....... good luck!

OK well thanks but I've checked pix of those and they're nothing close to what I'm talking about. The only one that even looks any way similar is this

    http://www.google.ie/imgres?imgurl=http://www.danceclothesuk.com/676-1351-large/skater-dress-halter-neck.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.danceclothesuk.com/skating-leotards-dresses/676-skater-dress-halter-neck.html&usg=__lJXz4kUsdFn00LvHAVYoOtIj4so=&h=300&w=300&sz=17&hl=en&start=55&zoom=1&tbnid=mrbBYE2byOzfoM:&tbnh=157&tbnw=157&ei=vkB2TZSLMs6YhQeWhNmBBw&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dskater%2Bdress%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DX%26biw%3D1264%26bih%3D812%26tbs%3Disch:10%2C1254&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=264&vpy=411&dur=1112&hovh=157&hovw=157&tx=111&ty=113&oei=jUB2TYPXN86DhQf8_q2UBg&page=3&ndsp=30&ved=1t:429,r:8,s:55&biw=1264&bih=812

and even then, it's not really as frilly/flouncy/layered as the one I saw.
Thx anyway, but the search continues....

From you description, it seems like an 80's ra-ra skirt, very popular back then, not seen so much now, more like a tu-tu...
