Banking Facilities in Femme Name

Has anyone ever tried to get banking facilities in her girly name without undergoing a legal name change?

I've researched this and there is nothing under Common Law to prohibit this and the Equality Act is also relevant but none of the major banks are willing to oblige me despite letters from my GP and gender consultant; they all think I'm trying to hatch the biggest international fraudulent scam ever seen! I've lodged a complaint with the Financial Ombudsman.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has tried to do this.

    Hugs, Trines x x

Haven't a clue about Trans but ive changed my name 4 times first 2 changes didnt need any proof of id and they were very easy going it used to be the name you wished to be known as but last 2 it need to be legal marriage documents or divorce documents. like everything nowadays its all incredibly formal, basically if you died your death certificate has to have your exact name on it to close bank accounts and to be part of your will, if not everything becomes very hard to sort out for your family

Thanks for that Tina. I imagine Scots law and regulations may be a little different. You're all a little peculiar up there! I've been trying to get the bank to allow me to present cheques made out to Trines as I shall very shortly be giving my boat handling training as a woman but I think I'm on a loser. I'll have to insist on cash and have my clients think I'm evading tax! And as I live as Trines full time now it would be nice to have debit and credit cards in the same name too. It's just that I'm not ready to legally change my name yet. x x

Can you not trade as "Trines" and ask your bank to open an account for your business "Trines"?

Yes, I had thought of that Dee but a business account COSTS MONEY! And it's not a big business and I don't want it to be - it's just a very enjoyable little sideline. x x

May be worth a discussion with Mr Bank to see what is possible this way rather than changing your real name. Ignore me if you have had this discussion with them already.

I've used my account en femme with my male passport for ID. The young male teller never batted an eye, bless him.

It might seem like an odd question, but why not change your name?

I do intend to Debbie but only if & when my GIC agrees I am suitable for full transition. If I legally change my name now I will have to inform the 1001 authorities, companies, friend, relatives etc etc and if for any reason I do not ultimately fully transition then I'll probably want to 'undo' it all. An horrendous exercise! Temporary banking facilities in my desired name is what I am looking for and legally there should be no impediment to this - just all the banks' stubborness! x x

I obviously told the docs I'd changed my name, my college and friends and fam, havent been arsed to inform the ultilities, bank etc as i simply cant be arsed. Not that there was much point telling my friends as they mostly call me either tranny, shirtlifter or the gorgeous one depending on who it is and what fram of mind they are in (PS I'll reply to your mail in a bit) - but it will be along the lines that you at making life difficult for yourself if you wish to expediate the process

    Trines here are some suggestions

    1. You can open a Pay Pal account in your femme name, as long as it has links to your real bank account. I have a Pay Pal account for Pauline and my real family name.
My real bank accounts have the same first initial - P - and the same family name.

    2. You could ask your existing bank to change all your bank accounts and debit and credit cards to just your initial or initials and family name....
Thus instead of say David Jones it would be D Jones. Of course that only helps if you want to be Debbie and your boy name begins with a D. Maybe you will have to change your girl name to start with the same initial letter as your boy name?
It may not be ideal but I cannot see why the bank could possibly object to you using your initial(s) before your name.

I realize that the banks are trying to prevent money laundering and they do go to vast lengths to do that

    3. Open a new account with the Co-op or TSB with your initials and family name. Or open an on line bank account in the same way with someone like citibank.

    hope that helps

Change your name, change your bank details, then change your name again back to what it was....And don't tell the bank. If they're going to take piss, you might as well, too.

I would suggest making an appointment at your current bank to see someone face to face. Explain your position, lay it on a bit thick, and tell them you will be keeping the account that is in your real name open as well. I can't see what they can object to. Years ago I was self-employed and opened a second account at my bank, guarantee card and everything, with my own name plus Biz at the end. This was at the suggestion of the bank itself and they said I didn't need to use my own name, I could just invent a business name... Trines would have done nicely. If your bank says no try the Post Office, they are already full of bogus accounts.

In answer to the OP, Yes I did approx 1 year ago when I was opening yet another account in 'bob' mode, did explain to my bank but got the impression because the name I wanted to use was in thier eyes ficticious they had thoughts that I was going to be using a washing machine and launder the money. The bank in question was Lloyds, however attitudes may have changed since but understnad that if you have a credit card and you want to have a 2nd card holder in 'girl mode' on your 'bob' mode account there is nothing they can do about it.

This topic is sooo interesting and not something Id thought about but now that I have I really want 1.

If I could have an account for Mark who goes out and earns all the money and pays the bills and another for Samantha who spends whats left that'd be really useful.

This account is money u cant spend and this account is money u can spend, wow that wud be so useful cos Im so ditzy having it all together I jus spend the lot!

Gonna have to keep my eyes on this for developments

This all begs the question, why would banks allow people to open accounts in fictitious names? Allowing people to open up accounts in any name they please makes no sense whatsoever and could lead to any number of problems in terms of fraud, identity theft and money laundering. I think it's common sense for them to take a hardline approach to this. If someone wants to be a woman be a woman. Be a woman with a woman's name then there's no problem.

aaaaw if only life were so simple n so black n white eh, none of us would even need to transition then nor encounter this half n half part of their journey.

Common sense would be to find a way to allow a person with 2 facets to their identity to have the 2 accounts they require and Id like to point out theres plenty of banks whove been fined for mis-practice whilst I havent so they can keep their hardline for themselves, theyre the crooks.

life isn't simple. But one thing which is simple is that you are one person not two. You may perceive yourself as male as female or an inbetweener. However you perceive yourself you are one person. I changed my name using a prefix of Miss which was wholly inappropriate but not as inappropriate as Mr. However now Mx is available for bank accounts driving licences etc I will change to that as it's what represents me as a person. So you have three options which is more than enough for any human being to choose from. Wanting two is ridiculous.

Ive never said Im 2 ppl duckie, whatever gave you that idea? I also dont perceive myself to be anything other than somebody who really could do with a new approach to my ban king facilities.

I cant stop you thinking such a need is ridiculous, nor do I want to, I think it'd be pretty neat myself tho and would love it.

I think the deal is,if your desire to transition is strong enough you will move heaven and hell to fulfill that, if not then its just a fetish or a hobby that comes out of the bathroom after work and weekends. for me nothing has been simple but all worth fighting for, everything changed, no male clothes left in my house, even my overalls are very nicely fitted lol

I've been into the bank and withdrawn money en-femme, with only my male passport for support. Nobody batted an eyelid.
