I discovered the joys of belly dancing several years ago, and, for what it’s worth, I would like to share my enthusiasm for this ultra-feminine art form with you.
Belly dancing is beautiful and sensual, and it’s great exercise! It’s great for flattening your tummy and slimming your waist. Of course, there are many ways to achieve these physical changes to your body, but belly dancing feels SO good! The movements are so feminine; rather than feeling like you’re getting some great exercise, you’re floating on a cloud!
Belly dancing moves include “hip hits” (a staccato movement of the hips out from the body), “shimmy” (a shimmering vibration of the hips), and “undulations” (fluid movements of the hips, chest, or abdominal muscles).
Belly dance is a non-impact, weight-bearing exercise and so it's suitable for all ages. (It’s a great exercise for the prevention of osteoporosis in older people.) Belly dance improves flexibility of the torso and it is very beneficial to the spine, as the full-body undulation moves lengthens and strengthens the entire column of spinal and abdominal muscles in a gentle way.
There are many ways to begin to learn to belly dance. Here is a link to 8 FREE online lessons: http://www.bellydancelessonsonline.com
I prefer to belly dance in a long flowing skirt and high heels, but even if you’re barefoot and dressed in “drab”, you can’t help feeling utterly feminine and beautiful. Another great benefit for me has been that belly dancing has helped me to learn develop a graceful, flowing, and feminine way of moving that has come easily and naturally for me.
I hope some of you find this interesting, and maybe want to give it a try. Have fun!
Cheers,
Nina
