This is a bit of a random blog about transsexual films. I have been involved professionally making, directing and producing standard films/videos for years, mostly boring corporate stuff or short videos to promote businesses on the web. I have always nurtured the idea of making a film at some point about us, that is t-girls, transsexuals or whatever label you generally use to describe us gender blurrers!
Current image technology has given us the capability, using standard digital SLR cameras like the Canon Mk5 or the Nikon D600 or the Panasonic GH2, to create high definition films. The really special leap though from the film makers perspective is that with these DSLR cameras, you can fit a gorgeous, high quality, photographic, fast, light sensitive lens on the front of your camera, giving you a cinematic looking shallow depth of field and voila! It looks like watching something at your local multiscreen with a box of popcorn in your lap!!!
So with a decent tripod, some lights and good lenses and a team of helpers you can make some very serious looking films for no huge cost of hiring high end equipment. A whole episode of House was filmed on Canon 5D Mk2’s, (the body only, can be bought for about £1,100 online) The film Red Tails released last autumn, also used footage shot by Canon 5D’s. The whole of the feature film Act of Valor was shot on Canon 5D’s and went on general release.
So it’s possible for very little money to make a ‘grown up’ looking film. But before moving forward and shouting action..... this blog is a bit of market research. As the potential audience..... although of course it would be nice to think that a film made by us and about us might have a general audience as well! Depending on the storyline.......I wanted to ask your views and opinions on a few specific thoughts about the whole topic.
That’s it really folks and thanks for any interest shown and for any comments offered......it would be really interesting to see what you think and feel about the whole subject....and who knows at some point in the future, you might see a film sparked by Transtastic girls showing at the Sundance film festival! .....or one of us in LA accepting an Oscar!!
This is not a commercial motivated blog in any way, just a personal interest in seeing if it’s something worth taking more seriously and turning it from a daydream into a reality.
If anything positive does come out of this initial little bit of research.....it will take a while to organise an actual production of any kind!... so don’t expect to be visiting the make-up truck anytime soon! As a famous actress once said filming is hours and hours of hanging around in cold rooms with 30 seconds a day of bright, exciting Hollywood glamour!
