OK, here we go my thoughts on Manchester Pride
Well, this was my first time attending, and it didn't dissapoint! £22 for a weekend of fun, with Various artists, Muscians, stalls, and Information and Support groups.
So, i found it to be friendly enough, though as Trans Woman, i did notice, some of the LGB, were uncomfy around me, and even some funny looks here, but If they took 5 minutes to get to know me, I'm sure they'd be able to emphasise, and work with us.
But, at the same time, the Trans Presence, was very Small, in Comparison, to the rest of the LGBT, which annoyed me slightly, i feel to make Pride events truly inclusive, we need to show our faces, and stand up and be counted, with have so many singing our song, so to speak, but we need to sing with them...
But, overall a fantastic weekend, with fantastic people, from all backgrounds, and the Sparkle stage was a nice touch, and some interesting proposals and offers sent my way, but at the same time, I educated quite a few people on Trans Issues and Terminolgy, most said they thought most of our Issues are a little complex, but once you scratch the surface, you see the actual simplicity of it all.
But alas, i also met some Ignorant people, mainly a few Gay Women, which is truly a shame, tried everything withing my power, to chat with them, as i feel interaction is the key, but calling me " Him " and "He " over and over, and not listening to reason, is a little frustating, but I shan't let it get to me, as i stated earlier, we are the Minority, and LGB the Majority, and they certainly worked it, so i will re itterate that we need, to make our presence known, and shout just as loud as the rest of LGBT, or we will gain zero ground, and Continue to be the Minority.
But, all in all, a fantastic weekend, with fantastic company, and i felt the love, quite a lot
