Ok this is just the ramblings of me, suffering from 'sometimes'So what to say not lot, like most people here started 'dressing' at young age mainly then it was mainly doing dress up with the next door nieghbour's girl. As I grew up in the 70s/80s I hadn't a clue what a crossdresser/transvestite/transgender was. My first inkling came when I read a book by Tula aged about 14/15 and I realised was different - a boy from a working class 70s family a TV! - let's face it 'homosexuals' had just been discoverd in the 70s, CDs/TVs/TGs were still just myths in the mist. So how does a shy 14yr old tell his family he's a TV? He doesn't. He keeps it as a secret, this leads to depressions (still not discovered, this is the 70s) guilt, even more so being a catholic, and buried himself in sci-fi, yes nerds did exist in the 70s. Yet in this shy 14yr old boy was a sassy girl trying to get out, struting around in his head in high heels!

  • Peter Oram Nothing wrong with Sci-Fi, still my preferred genre for both reading and viewing. Does that make me a nerd still then?
  • Rachael Louise Blanche Still love my sci-fi and I never forget my towel
  • Pauline Smith Have a read of Anne Nicholls series of Articles here - Deceivers All - and you will see that every generation struggled with what you did in the 70s and 80s. In theory you had the benefits from gender bender Bowie - but I suspect it was no easier than it...  more
