Having read through quite a few books on what and what not to wear I have come to the conclusion and it’s no major surprise that there are different body shapes….. shock horror I know. Something we may not all know is there are seven classical female body shapes each one requiring a different approach when it comes to selecting the best style of cloths to wear.
The majority of us wish to achieve or obtain the “perfect” hour glass shape, well there is actually in fact a “Neat Hourglass -” and a “Full Hourglass” shape. Whilst this may be the desired shape as genetic fellas (and in male mode) we would generally fall into the “Inverted Triangle”, “Rectangle” or “Round” shape. Achieving our more desirable shape in this case the full hourglassmay be achieved by wearing corsets, shapewear or adding extra curves in the form of hips or bottom pads. This is where a little cheating can go a long way!
For the purpose of this blog I'm going to concentrate on the shapes,(D),andand try and highlight the most suitable styles of clothing that best complements the general shape.
Your Best Fabrics
When looking at the actual fabrics try to concentrate on the light to medium weight materials, with little texture. If you do select linen or cotton garments then select the ones cut with a bias to give movement and accommodate those curves. Your friends are:
Your Best Patterns
Try to avoid geometric patterns, as the lines will not lie straight on you instead select more fluid shapes such as:

Crisp, constructed fabrics work best for this body shape because the line is straight and angled. The best fabrics for this shape are:

You can wear patterns above and below the waistline, but they must be geometric to balance the clothing line. The best patterns are:

Most rectangles can wear crisp fabrics, but if you have a full bust, slightly softer fabrics will work better, fabrics such as:
Your Best Patterns
Because your body line is straight geometric patterns work best. Other patterns that work well with this shape are:
Your Best Fabrics
Select soft and fluid fabrics that will hang well and will not cling to your figure. Thick or stiff fabrics will add more unwelcome width to your figure. The best fabrics for you are:
Your Best Patterns
Try to focus on subtle patterns as much as possible, anything to bold could be overpowering. So of the best patterns are:
The above are just four of the common female body shapes, remember when selecting your outfits size does not matter, shape does. If you select the best styles, patterns and fabrics you can enhance the appearance of your shape greatly. This is very much a general guide as to selecting your outfits, you will also have to take into consideration your "proportions".
Proportions in this case relates to the relationship between your body and those all important legs, as well as the position of your "waist". When you understand your body proportions you will be able to combine cloths that appear to adjust any imbalances thereby giving the illusion of perfect proportions and a better overall appearance.
