Shopping at Next

I have been looking for some new t-bar or Mary Jane style shoes to go with a couple of outfits. By chance I happened to go into Next on fenchurch street. They had their new lines in and there were a lovely pair of shoes. Now as this is lunch time of a working day I'm in male mode, complete with stubble! I was approached by the male assistant asking if there was anything he could help with. I was going to say No but then decided I'd ask about shoe sizes. He said they stocked up to size 9 but didn't have many. I have bought shoes from other shops and had to take them back as they didn't fit so wanted to know how that translated into continental sizes. He found me a chart. I asked if this applied to all their ranges, to which he agreed. Now could I go further, I asked if I could try a pair. No problem just wait there and off he went. On return he said he didn't have the shoes I wanted in 8 or 9 but did have a similar pair which I might like to try and then said probably better do that in the men's fitting room and proceeded to carry the shoes for me, so I wouldn't be seen carry ladies shoes into the fitting room. When I'd finished I was able to walk back and thank him. He said there was a delivery on Thursday and hopefully there would be some 8 in that delivery and perhaps I could come back then. He did say that his wife went up a size if the toes were pointy which these sort of were, so I may need to try a 9 as well.
All this was done very discreetly and without any fuss. So Thursday lunchtime I'll be trying on some new shoes in Next. As I was about to leave I noticed the store manager and went up and told her how helpful my assistant had been. Praise where praise is due.

I wonder if I have enough pluck to try on a blouse I saw as well?

  • Josephine Green Just a quick update. Went back today as they have deliveries today. No shoes in size 8 or 9 other than plain black courts. The same assistant was very apologetic - I would have to order what I wanted and it would be in Friday. Decided to think about it...  more

  • Mandy and Suze The Bucket Girls Most shops just want your money these days but being nicer about it, most of the staff in the High Street stores have been very understanding and friendly about selling to trannys, I've even shown them pics of us, so they get the idea. Sounds like you...  more
