What's in a name

I have 4 very nice real girls friends. Laura, Karen, Jamie and Es. Jamie had recently moved into a new house so was persuaded to hold a housewarming BBQ. As Es was away she could not come. All the other girls are married and would bring their husbands. All four girls know about me in both drab and drag mode and are happy with it.
When I arrived Jamie greeted me and showed me round (she had asked I attend in drab as her family would be there). Once we got to the kitchen her mother was there and I got introduced as a 'friend' (no name). As we stepped outside she admitted that she had forgotten my male name as we so often talked in girl mode. (I think the last 3 meetings have been in drab mode but she still thought of me as Josephine).
Later Laura had to tell me that on the way there her and Richard had been talking about who would be there. Apparently she said that I'd be there and used both names. Richard immediately asked, what do I call her (I not sure he's even seen Josephine) to which Laura replied, "it will depend on what SHE'S wearing".
So life may be difficult for us bigender people but can be really difficult for those that know us.

  • rita clark When ever I meet a trans friend, they only know me as rita and call me that. To many others I'm Richard no matter how I'm dressed. I tried to change it to Ricki to bring both together. But they are both too well established and I wasn't successful. ...  more
  • Josephine Green One further thought is that most people who do know me in femme mode call me Jo (one of many gender neutral names) but when they forget my male name don't even think to call me Joe! I respond to either name in either mode. Yes I'm one person but with two...  more
