The end of another year, and the chance to look ahead with anticipation and wonder.
Can it be any worse than the previous?
What's in store in 2012? And most importantly...where we going to party?
Paula Luv sets the controls and JoJo steps on the gas...Manchester! The Industrial shock city of the 19th Century now transformed into the Barcelona of the North-West...
We arrange to meet Bradford girl about town Sweet Amy in Taurus at the very top of Canal Street - which was fine until I realised the cab had dropped us off at the other end...them bloody cobbles!!
Taurus was filled with couples but not the vanilla style - this is NYE and lots of gurls had arm wrestled their spouses n better halves into submission and frocks n glitzy glamour were in abundance.
A quick slug of Bacardi and Paula informs me Amy's in Venus Bar (Was Russell Grant responsible for naming all there watering holes?).
Canal Street is awash with the sights and sounds of NYE....men on stilts, gurls arm in arm, young boys in their finest, girls done up to the nines...and your intrepid pair picking their way through the excited throngs.
Venus was chocka and JoJo was feeling the heat so I step out for a quick ciggie (no resolution to quit kids!). The obligatory "We admire what you're doing" from two women results in a quick piccie session, and then off to the main event....Naps!
Love it...Hate it. Naps is the marmite of Sackville Street. It's the T-Girl boozer...all shapes, ages and styles hug the little bar whilst the low ceiling can be a death trap!
Out into the smoking area and the gang's all there...we get settled in and watch the drama unfold. Too soon the chimes arrive and everyone clinks glasses and raises a toast to the year just gone n the one to come.
At 2 0'clock Paula drags me away from a nice Norwegian man called Stig and we head over to Hulme for Kirsty Loveit's house party....but that's another tale to tell.
