Literature is awash with "buddies" on a journey or quest...(Around the World in 80 days, Robinson Crusoe. Don Quixote, Three Men in a Boat...etc) and the development of the relationship between the individuals is as much an integral part of the novel as the linear story itself.
And so it is with JoJo's Travels.
After first meeting Paula Luv outside the Cosmo Hotel in Leeds in November we are now firm friends and allies, and after finally finishing work on Friday Paula confronted me with a choice Spend Christmas Eve watching re-runs of Porridge and Christmas Cash in the Attic...or fill the tank in the car and get to Leeds where a 4 star room awaited in the Plaza Hotel?
4 hours later we're turning into the NCP car-park on Swinegate, Leeds. After booking into reception Paula pours the first Bacardi n Coke and the girls set to work "Glamming up."
Fortunately the room has a great bathroom with decent lighting and mirrors and by 10.30 pm the duo are taking their first tentative (those bloomin heels!) into the Leeds night. Paula's gone for boots and goth/gypsy slant whilst yours truely is pure sex look...fur coat n no knickers...lol.
We head straight for the Loft in Queens Courtyard. Young metrosexuals swish by...aflamed by the season's promise and expectation. My fur attacts attention (thank God something does!) and positive comments...as we make our way up the stairs into the club.
Paula's like a human address book and quickly introduces me to Amy, Sara and Tina (who's full of Christmas Spirit..lol). The music is quality chart dance and us girls are surrounded by smiling faces and i-phone carrying youngsters.
I'm up for dancing and posing (now there's a suprise!) and pretty soon we've settled into a cabal of girlie fun and hot moves that attract some male admirers (Hi Rick hon x).
The night flys by...lots of doubles (and at £3 each who can resist) and walks out into the courtyard for ciggies n earnest chats (ranging from the amount of times one had seen "the Clash" err 3 for yours truely...to how best to walk on cobbles in heels).
As the night turns to dawn Paula gives me my instructions...I am to "have fun" whilst she goes with "the girls" for more drinkies at another hotel they were staying in.
After returning to the Plaza at 7.30 am I finally crawl into a lovely fresh double bed and attempt to sleep. Paula returns at 10.30 am and we prepare to leave.
A brilliant adventure that started with an off the cuff statement...this is how it should be.
Let meticulous planning inspire your impulsive thoughts. (A double room at the Plaza in the heart of Leeds City Centre for just £40.00!! Booked on-line of course.)
Paula looks across at me as I type this...she's been thinking......eeek! Where next?
