Proud2be press launch

I have just returned from a trip to london. This was to attened the Proud2be Press launch, but more of that in a bit.

First I'd like to tell you a bit about the project , it was actually started about two years ago by two gay brothers Mat and Jon .They came up with the idea that we should celebrate being proud of who we are no matter what, and wanted to do some thing about it .Over the last two years it has gone from strength to strength .

I first got involved about eighteen months ago , when I recived an email asking if I'd come to a focus group to talk about all things LGBT. So, I thought why not go along and find out more? The first thing I noticed was that I was the lone Trans person in the room, well nothing new there . The meeting was great, the guys were inspirational and the talk just flowed .

The next major event was the setting up of a social group down here in Devon . This came about a few months later and is now a great success with around thirty people turning up every month for coffee and a chat . They also started a weekly radio show on a local station. Topics vary from week to week but all are, again, LBGT related and I've had the good fortune to go on the show on a regular basis to talk about all things Trans .

The basic idea is to try and encourage people to be out and proud of who they are, and live their lives being proud . To this extent they run a video blog of people saying "I'm out and proud2be Trans" ect . There are lots more things going on, but this is just an insight .You can always just look them up on the web at

So back to last week .

I had been asked by the guys to come along as a supporter of this project, so I said "yes it will be great". So, hotel book, well YHA as london is not cheap lol, travel sorted and every thing was ready . Well, untill about two weeks ago when at the regular social meeting the guys came up to me and said " Becky... ". I should have run away then, but no, I stayed and said yes . Well, the out-come was they wanted me to make a speach at their press launch . At first I was "Oh god, no way" but soon came round to "Hey why not? I can do that!". So, what started out as a trip to support the project soon became a trip to make my first Trans speach in public . Oh, and with the pink press there as well .

Well, I'm pleased to say it all went very well, and even my speach, I'm told, was very good. Oh and that was by none other than MEP Michele Cashman and Elly Barnes . Mind, to me the best bit was having one of my daughters there to support me, and my best-friend as well . So that's what I've just been up to . I think if we belive, and we are proud, we should stand up and be counted .

You only get one shot at life, so go grab it and be Proud of who you .

Thanks for reading this rather long blog and I hope to see lots of you at Sparkle .
