Speaking Out’ is a research project focussed on trans people’s experiences of violence and abuse and help-seeking in their relationships (including intimate relationships, family relationships and other personal relationships). The project is led by Professor Catherine Donovan, University of Sunderland and Dr Rebecca Barnes, University of Leicester and funded by the Centre for Applied Social Sciences at the University of Sunderland.By taking part you will be providing vital information about the way violence and/or abuse are experienced for transgender people in personal relationships and, importantly, provide insights into help-seeking experiences. The findings from this research will be used to promote more inclusive and well-informed responses from agencies which trans people may approach for support and advice regarding their relationships and/or their more general physical and mental well-being.

Taking part in the study will involve a face to face interview of approximately 90 minutes. Research Assistant Kate Butterworth will travel to you and you will be invited to discuss your experiences of violence and abuse and help-seeking. We are interested in any abuse you might have experienced, be this physical, sexual, emotional, financial and/or any other form. For further information or to take part, please contact Kate via e-mail, phone call, or text message (see details below). We look forward to hearing from you.
