Here are a series of contact and support groups and their meetings for trans people in the Greater Manchester area. Some are weekly and some are monthly like #TRANS MCR. This blog is mainly a cut and paste job from the LGBT Foundation website. Here are the links

As you can see there are lots of activities going on, for various age groups; I hope that for those of you who live in the Manchester area or are near enough to travel that you find support groups and events that you would like to attend.

In a world that categorises, scrutinises, and uses disabled people, what happens when we define ourselves, on our own terms? How can we do that? This TBA retreat will be a chance to gather in a supportive and accessible environment to explore disability, and the ways that disabled people (and our experiences) are both visible and invisible. We will be able to talk, listen, learn, laugh, create, and just hang out together.
The retreat is disability focused but we are welcoming anyone who wants to learn and be in a safe supportive space whether you have a disability or not – that means allies, friends, partners and personal assistants too, as well as disabled people themselves.
Like all TBA events, this retreat is rooted in the TBA principles of body positivity, sex and intimacy, and emotional wellbeing. The weekend will be predominately for trans people but we are welcoming cis (non trans) people, either allies or personal assistants. As we are a body positive organisation this means that we allow nudity, mainly in free time in the evenings. However, this does not mean you have to get naked and nobody will be put under pressure to do anything they do not want to do.

The hack: Join us for a set of beginner friendly workshops and one day hack focusing on transgender issues. We'll start the day at 9:00 with a short talk on hackday skills and etiquette for those new to programming. If you're an old hand at coding, grab some coffee and get comfortable. Once the short workshops wrap up we'll be creating projects focusing on issues that impact the transgender community.
Our Code of Conduct will be in place during this event. We're aiming to have a fun but challenging day in a safe and supportive environment and expect attendees and volunteers seeking the same.
While this hack is focused on getting members of the transgender community working with technology, this event is open to all skill levels and allies.

Self medication is a symptom of a trans healthcare system that doesnt work for trans people. Yet often, the trans community chooses to ignore or avoid self-medication and only talks about it behind closed doors.
We want to talk about self medication. We want to talk about sourcing hormones, about monitoring, about bridging scripts. We want to talk about the mental health impacts of self-medication, the worry that your source isn't legit or that you are taking the wrong dose. We want to talk about how it compares to the "official" sources of treatment.
Action for Trans Health are hosting a day long discussion on self-medication on the 30th April in Manchester, and we would love for you to join us.
The event is free but if you can afford it, please consider donating £5 - £10 to cover the costs of putting the event on. Food will be provided. The venue is wheelchair accessible and there are gender neutral toilet facilities. There will be a quiet room available. There is a travel fund for people who want to come but cannot afford to, which will be prioritised towards trans people of colour and disabled people. To access this fund, please email info@actionfortranshealth.org.uk
Places might book up fast, so please book online using this form. Where we are overbooked, places for trans people will be prioritised over those for cis people.

For April’s Saturday session, we’re joining forces with TRANSFORMERS, the Trans Youth group in Brighton, to discuss your future as young trans people.
The young trans people will gather for the first hour, and then at 3pm we’ll have some visitors over 25 coming in to discuss how they have progressed with their careers, passions and interests as trans and gender variant identified people / members of the trans community.
Examples of visitors will be firefighters, primary school teachers, academics, bankers, psychologists as well as political activists and journalists. We also have a trans person who is a new parent, and so there will be an opportunity to talk about what it’s like to have a family, if that is something that interests you.
You will be able to, on a one-to-one basis or as part of a group, ask questions to our visitors about their experiences working in their chosen sector, find out why they enjoy it, and maybe use that to inspire and help shape your own future - whatever that may be.
Arrive at 2pm and we’ll be in the foyer to meet you, or ask for Gendered Intelligence at reception.
Travel bursaries will be offered to those on a low income for up to £6 per person and you will only be reimbursed when you give us a receipt. Light refreshments will be provided at all events. The buildings are fully accessible, but please contact us if you have any access needs so that we can work together to accommodate everyone.
If you have any questions, or it’s your first time attending a session and you want to get in touch, send us an ask on tumblr or email: admin@genderedintelligence.co.uk

Who knew what being transgender was in the 1970s? Not Kate’s family. To be fair, crispy pancakes had only just landed in the Midlands so she had her work cut out. The path to becoming a woman doesn’t always run smooth and with a lifetime of coming out, Kate has had to use every trick — theatrical and otherwise — to get by. Big Girl’s Blouse sees Kate make a song and dance about her life using humour, music and costume to tell her story. Commissioned by Contact.
