My contribution so far today has been to be interviewed by Radio Manchester after I sent in the following text about why Manchester is great -

In my experience Manchester is one of the most transgender friendly places on the planet - that is not just the Gay Village, the LGBT Foundation but also the most important thing the people here are tolerant and welcoming - Pauline a transwoman from Radcliffe. sent at 09.42

At 09.50 the BBC called me and I was on air being interviewed about my experiences. I had maybe 2 to 3 minutes to tell them about trans friendly the city is - not just venues like The Village but ordinary places. I explained that I have lived in other countries and what I like about MCR is the people and how tolerant they are to me as a transwoman; and how the city itself has re- invented itself from a friendly grimy wet place in the 1960s to what it is now - this was in response to a question about how its changed since I left. I explained that I came back here 8 years ago; and was amazed by the transformation of the centre - the clean public buildings, the new and refurbished buildings - like the central library, and in the past few years the arrival of many new restaurants.

Right now I am still in my PJs - wondering whether to go out dressed as Pauline and persuade someone to take a photo of me with the large smiley.....hopefully I have already contributed in my small way to TDOV already.

I know that many of you will either post selfies on Facebook or here - enjoy being visible

    hugs

What is Trans Day of Visibility?

International Trans Day of Visibility (TDOV) is an annual event occurring on March 31st each year. The day is dedicated to celebrating trans people and raising awareness of discrimination faced by trans people worldwide. The holiday was founded to celebrate trans people following the frustration from members of the trans community that the only well-known trans-centered event each year was the Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) which is a time to mourn the loss of transgender people to hate crimes. Trans Day of Visibility is a time to focus on the positive elements of trans people’s lives.

    How can I get involved?
Download our Social Media Pack here for guidance of how to support TDOV and promote it amongst your friends and colleagues.

  • Tim Flannery and Jannine CD like this
  • rita clark Sounds like your doing a lot Pauline. For me its about getting out and about doing everyday things being visible to the neighbours. The more we do the more they are going to know we are just plain folks like them and they have nothing to fear from us.
  • Peter Oram That makes you a star no Pauline! Can I have your autograph?
  • Pauline Smith I'm not a star - just an ordinary person who tries to do their little bit to help others and show that we are normal and dont have 2 heads - thank you both of you for the lovely comments, Pauline xx
