Looking back I was very lucky to be a teenager in the 1960s and see Roy Orbison live, he was top of the bill and the Beatles were the supporting act when I saw him. And now the cinema on Oxford Road Manchester, where I saw them play is an office block for bean counters. I also have to say that his songs comforted me when various young ladies broke my tender heart.
His amazing voice and his songs - mostly based on personal experiences - Claudette, Running Scared, Its Over and Pretty Woman have in my opinion stood the test of time.
If you have access to the BBC i player then watch and listen to these videos whilst you can. Black and White and the Wilburys show how loved he was by his fellow artists.
He was a special talent.
