State of British Television

    Hi all,

Ok so i thought i would attempt to write a blog, English was never my favourite subject at school so apologies upfront if this goes wrong and here goes. I want to talk about the state of British television, now im not sure if its the same as you girls that live in the far corners of the globe, but can anyone tell me why its so dull and full of reality rubbish, i ask this because i like to surf youtube and watch shows from times gone by, now i was watching a show on youtube, that aired a couple of years ago, it was broadcast during the 80s early 90s called Spitting Image. It was a show that made me understand politics (there is a generation of us that will back me up i hope so anywany), well i think it did, and it brought back some good memories of when i used to watch it on a sunday evening, the characters were great and the jokes, ah the jokes, well they would now be branded as not PC storylines, anyway it made me think are we as a nation going to fall even deeper into the PC of television where the majority is censored or could there be a possibility that we might just one day get the great programmes of yesteryear back on our screens. Now with that i dont mean watching Dave and Gold, i like watching Dave (not that dave, sorry to all you daves) and Gold but i just feel that we should have shows that we can try to compare to porridge, blackadder, only fools and horses, open all hours etc i know its tough comparing any television programme to them legendary shows but surely there is hope and one day we might just see a television schedule that doesn't consist of the rubbish thats on prime time telly today, now dont get me wrong there is some ok shows on now but i just feel there are no really great shows that people will remember in say 20 years time. Another thought has popped into my head did great telly especially comedy die the moment Ronnie Barker passed away?. hmm another thought just popped in my mind  maybe im living in cloud cuckoo land and we will never see any great television series again. The future isn't bright and it certainly isnt orange. Your thoughts very much appreciated and thanks for reading my waffle.

  • Pauline Smith Maybe the reason its called Gold is because it is the best from the past? After all we don't watch re-runs of Opportunity Knocks or Corrie or old sports programmes. As with movies we cherry pick the best of the past don't we? Most of the schedules...  more

  • Andrea Caskin love the blog Stephanie, I think there are some real fundamental problems in British TV, One is when the 2 ronnies were on, there was only three channels, now there's hundreds, so too much demand not enough material. Another problem is money! there's...  more
