Hi gang, in case you don't already know me, I'm Katie. I've been Katie for as long as I can remember but owing to a cruel twist of fate I've had to pretend I'm a man in everyday situations, for many years. I guess that's much like a lot of our stories. If my circumstances were different, I would probably transition and be Katie all the time. But hey!
I work as a journalist, writing about gender issues, I'm the Editor of Frock Magazine and I occasionally write for The Independent newspaper. I founded an online community (not unlike Transtastic) for crossdressers and transgender people in general, back in 1999. It was called Trannyweb and it was very popular for many years. When the word 'tranny' became toxic though, we changed the name to The Gender Society. That is still running now.
So, I was very flattered when Beckie Fox approached me and asked if I would take over Transtastic. We have known each other for years and my magazine, Frock, has always been a big supporter of Sparkle, of which Beckie is a trustee. We have worked together on marketing Sparkle in the past and I hope we will again in the future.
Taking on a social network like Transtastic is a big responsibility and I am very aware of all the great things that Beckie has done for Transtastic in the past. My intention is to not change anything at all unless we absolutely have to because I subscribe very much to the theory of 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it'.
There are a few areas that do need some TLC though, as Beckie will be the first to tell you and we will try to address these over the next few weeks so that everything works the way you expect. We will also give some areas a makeover to give them more of a wow factor.
And remember, this is your community. I have simply been entrusted with running it and keeping the software up to date so that everything keeps on working for you. If you have any ideas for how you want your community to work in future, please do let me know.
I'll disappear into the background again now but I might pop up again soon, with some crazy ideas for girly nights out at Pink Punters or The Wayout or somewhere closer to where you live.
Thanks and hugs, Katie
