Division

So...been thinking about the situation that's going on with the wider LGBT community. We're a community that's ostracised by so many people just because of either our sense of attraction or because of our identity. We've come through so much in spite of our divisiveness because when it matters most, we come together easily and prove to be a force to be reckoned with.

Now, however, it seems our divisiveness is getting the better of us. A lot of cisgender people in the community have got it into their heads that we who have been ostracised for our identities shouldn't be associated with people who are only ostracised for their sense of attraction, in spite of the fact that many transgender people are also lesbian, gay or bisexual.

The question is, if they succeed and we're cast out of the community that we've bled for as much as anyone else, will the division end there? Or will it continue? Will the bisexual community be the next on the chopping block because of the fact they do experience opposite sex attraction. And if they do get kicked out, how long will it be before the minority of lesbian women who don't like being in the same community as gay men cause the LG community to just become the L community?

The fact is though, the LGBT community has come so far in the past 30-40 years and we've got that far by standing together. But we've got a long way still to go. Is it really the time for us to all be going our seperate ways? Can any one community still keep a strong fight against our oppressors if we simply forsake our allies?

Together we stand but if we allow ignorance to divide us, surely then, we deserve to fall.
