I watched this programme on the BBC about "agony aunts" and originally back in the 1690s they were agony uncles, when they started out writing pamphlets in coffee houses. Maybe there were questions about Molly Houses from some of their enquirers? Nothing is new really.
It's also interesting how the role has changed over the last 325 years, and that some transvestites were active in writing to womens magazines in the 19th Century. Plus how much help Clare Raynor gave to the LGBT community in the 1980s. And how questions about sex and sexuality replaced those like....."should I wear gloves to shake the bishop's" to those "like how I do give a blow job."
Now we have acess to the internet, and you can google to find out all kinds of things, but people still want advice from a human being - even if that advice only confirms what they already know.
I get several requests for help every month from our members, and unlike the Sun we don't publish them here....everything that Audrey says is in confidence and is between me and whoever asks for help.
lots of kisses
Audrey xxxxx
PS If you are able to access the BBC then please take out 60 minutes to watch the programme
