    Introducing TransAgenda

Hi there. My name is Lucy Jones and I’m writing my first blog on Transtastic to let you know about our new community website, TransAgenda.org

I had the idea in January 2014 and it flowed partly from a strongly held view that the Trans community seriously lacks an umbrella organisation to link up and align all the great work being done by so many amazing people on different Trans issues. Having spent time considering if there was scope to set about beginning this work via a web-based model, in May I decided to do it.

So what is it all about?

    The purpose of TransAgenda.org is:

    • To provide a space for online debate about the future of change for Transgender people and how to achieve it.
    • To seek agreement among the Transgender community as to what that future can look like.
    • To represent and pursue ideas which are of real demonstrable benefit to government and others who can influence real change.

    Our commitment

To be a conduit between the community, third sector, private and public sector partners for recognising evidence based ideas and represent them to those who can deliver where there is clear, agreed value. To build a one stop shop resource base for defining a future for Transgender people.

    The summer

Since that decision point I, now we, have had a very busy summer! Calling on help from wonderful friends, Beckie Cannons, Darla Durden, Lillian Lomas, Cerys Williams, Crystal Mesh, Selina Slinx, Jules Kyle, Nikki Leigh, Rachel Colvert, Ruth Abbot, to name a few, we looked at how to make the site a reality.

So what have we been up to?

In June we chose a name, designed a logo, defined vision and mission (see below), values and operating principles, began writing copy for the site and confirmed the scope of how it will work for individuals and organisations

In July we began focusing on site look and feel, continued drafting copy and set about face to face promotion at UK based events, notably Sparkle and TransPride Brighton (the TransAgenda team are all UK based for now though the site has a global reach).

We also initiated our social media platform. Follow us on Twitter @transagendaorg and like us on facebook at Facebook.com/transagenda

During August we’ve continued work on look and feel, copy drafting/editing and appointed Lillian Lomas as TransAgenda’s Brighton Director. Congratulations Lillian! :-)

We’re also engaging as widely as we can with Trans-groups and those who care about our lives. We’re very excited about the consultation with our community Stonewall initiated on 30 August and the prospects for our collective future working with them. We followed the twitter feed #Transstonewall closely and with optimism. This is an important moment for our community. We are confronted with a real opportunity to make a pivotol decision for advancing Trans-Equality.

I will be blogging more fully on this soon. I am also meeting the driver behind that meeting and Stonewall’s new Chief Executive, Ruth Hunt, in October. If you have anything you would like me to raise with her regarding the Trans cause or if there is something you would like to see on TransAgenda.org when it goes live then drop me an email at info@transagenda.org or send me a message on Transtastic.

There is still a lot to do but we’re pleased with work to date and where we are on the path to go-live! TransAgenda.org is free, not for profit and available to subscribe now so do pay us a visit :-)

Finally below is what we believe in and are working for. I’ll sign off for now and wish you a Happy Autumn!

    Lucy Jones Xx

    VISION

We believe in a world where:

    • Transgender people live life in whatever form of gender they are
    • Where we do so free of persecution and with equality enshrined for ALL forms of Transgender
    • Where we do so while pursuing relationships, family, a career, social life, interests
    • Where automatic reaction of partners, friends, family, colleagues is not rejection/confusion/misunderstanding
    • We believe a Transgender individual does best in a flourishing community of people with common aims & shared values
