It'€™s great being me -“ well sometimes -“ it'€™s hard work balancing real-life work, family, this site and charity things from Sparkle to 'Job Club'. Finding the time to do stuff I really enjoy has been interesting in the last couple of years, but with my new job I have some more freedom to travel about€“ and more opportunities to get out, and notwithstanding€“ a new found energy that comes with any new challenge.
So, I finally got chance to make my appointment with Dori from Hair by MissTresses (http://www.celebwigs.com/). Dori has been a great supporter of Sparkle for many years, and of Transtastic from our start back in 2011. I'€™d put of the appointment since November last year -€“ so I was really excited about it. I'€™d also been asked by Repartee to help create an article with Dori for their April/May 2012 issue and who was I to refuse?
I arrived at Misstresses in the early afternoon to a beautiful building in the Oxfordshire Countryside near Thame. It was great for me as I'€™d worked in Thame before many years before and I reflected on the drive there €- bringing back some great memories. It was also while working in that job some 11 years ago that I had opportunity of my first night out when working in Manchester. I arrived.
I was welcomed by the every immaculate and vivacious Dori at the door, at the HQ of Misstresses. A cup of tea later and we were talking about the business and values -€“ which are just great. It'€™s so nice to meet people that want to do a great job, have high standards and values, and also add back into the community.
The main objective was to take a few shots of me with different wig styles and colours to go with the Repartee article. But as I had arrived in '€˜boy mode'€™ there was a bit of prep to do first. I was all ready to crack on, and plaster on the slap, when Dori offered to do a make-over. Something I wasn'€™t going to say no too. It was really interesting and educational as just being a very part-time girl I€'d forgotten about all those 'tips and tricks' that Dori reminded about, but also many new ones. And of course I got a whole new look.
So then it was wig time - and the talkative Dori went silent -€“ this was business now and clearly Dori'€™s passion. It was amazing to learn then that Dori designs all the wigs for MissTresses and gets them made to her exacting specifications.
Dori disappeared and returned with a bright red wig! Me with red hair? Nah! But, I was wrong, totally wrong.“ WOW. I was amazed -€“ I looked totally different and was delighted and thought it was really my personality.
We took a few photos and then the time came to take it off (awww) -€“ next was a wavy brunette wig. I felt very much a lady from Upstairs Downstairs '€œBaroness Cannons'Â. I wasn'€™t sure how well it would live-up to my dancing and prancing but it was very, very nice and another style that I didn'€™t know would suit me.
The final style was lighter, but still long,€“ it was my least favourite€“ but it was still really nice.
With all the hard work over (yeah right)€“ we headed into Oxford for some dinner at Loch Fyne a fabulous seafood restaurant (http://www.lochfyne-restaurants.com/restaurants/Oxford) which also served some very nice Vodka Martini€™s. And the best news was€“ Dori let me borrow that amazing red hair for the occasion!
Don'€™t forget to look out for the article in Repartee April/May 2012 issue.
Finally, you can also arrange an appointment with Misstresses, or simply buy on-line (http://www.celebwigs.com/) and support Dori and her amazing business (and as a Transtastic member you also get 15% off - see our Exclusive Offers section).
